Goma-training is an ascetic practice in which a fire is lit with Goma-gi (special firewood used in Goma-training) in a hearth set on a wooden altar called a Goma-dan, offerings of fragrant wood and five grains are offered, and prayers are made.
The Goma-training fire can reach a height of 1 meter. We pray that Bishamonten will come down to this flame, make an offering, and have your prayers come true.
This flame will also burn away your earthly desires and purify your body and mind.
This is the Goma-burning and Goma training at Oiwasan Bishamonten Main Temple.
At Oiwasan Bishamonten, we conduct Goma training at 5:30 every morning, on the 1st of every month, and on the 1st to 3rd of the New Year.
We will also give you a printout of some of the sutras we recite during the Goma training. Please read the sutra together.

Goma in Goma training is a transliteration of the Sanskrit word ``Homa'', which has its etymology meaning "to pour into the fire, to offer, offering," etc.
Goma was adopted from Hinduism during the middle to late period (esoteric Buddhism) of Mahayana Buddhism, which arose about 500 years after the death of Shakyamuni Buddha, and Goma is primarily an esoteric practice. It is practiced in esoteric Buddhism sects such as Tibetan Buddhism and Japan's Shingonshu and Tendaishu sects. The hall for practicing Goma is called "Goma-do".
